Oppo is said to release its new phone in the A series called the Oppo A5 2020, which was initially set to release in September 21, 2019, but is pushed back to 1st of October. The 2020 is the name is probably referencing to the upcoming year.
Oppo is hyping this phone for the release and its impression in the upcoming year. Oppo says A5 2020 is the phone that has all the features you want, meaning that it contains all the basic and most important features like a good camera combo setup, a good processor and a much better battery life.
The A5 2020 is a mid-range phone and its design is strikingly similar to the last year F9, mainly the display arrangement. From what it seems the A5 will probably will have an all glass body.
Oppo went with a vey minimalistic and yet a standard design approach with A5 2020. It has a very basic and natural design and does not stand out like the Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro or Nokia 9 with the seven-camera set up.
The design and the display are very similar to most of the basic smartphones and its previous models. A5 2020 features a triple camera and an extra 2 MP camera setup for the main camera and a single standard camera for the front camera. The dimensions for this phone are as 9.1 mm x 75.6 mm x 163.6 mm, for the thickness, width and height respectively. The phone weighs just under 195 grams. From the pictures, it seems that the body is a full glass material with a glossy finish.
On the front it has a big 6.5-inch screen protected display with a waterdrop style notch on the top for the front camera. On the back, the triple camera centered vertically on top and besides it is the flash and below the flash is another 2Mp camera lens. Just below the triple camera setup is a rounded-rectangle fingerprint sensor, also placed vertically. Below the sensor is the Oppo logo and a three-word description printed vertically as well.
The volume keys are placed to the right side and the volume keys on the left. Above the volume key is the dual SIM tray which has also features a slot for the expandable memory. On the bottom, you can find the USB Type-C port in the middle and a headphone jack on the right of it. The speaker grills are on the bottom as well, both to the left and right of the USB port.
The phone has a solid and a glossy glass finish with colors such as Mirror Black and Dazzling White.
Display On Oppo A5 2020
Like all of its previous phones and following the current trend, Oppo A5 2020 has a tall, bezel-less display with a waterdrop notch cutout out for the main camera.
The phone has a tall 6.5-inch IPS LCD 16M color display with supposed screen to body ratio at about 82.47%. The aspect ratio of the display is 20:9 and the pixel density of the display is 270 ppi. With the 720 x 1600-pixel display, the phone is said to able to pull up to 480 nits easily.
On the top of the display is a waterdrop style notch cutout for the front camera lens and the speaker for calling is tucked on the top of the notch to decrease the bezels. The display on the phone has av3 corning gorilla glass protection. The A5 2020 has all the other standard touchscreen features like a capacitive touchscreen and multi-touch.

Oppo has decided to go with a triple camera setup for the main camera with the addition of an extra 2 MP camera. For the front camera, it has a pretty standard 8 MP lens.
The main camera, primarily is a triple camera setup with a 12 MP f/1.8 aperture, 1/2.8″, 1.25µm, PDAF wide-angle lens as the primary lens, a 8 MP, 13mm, 1/4″, 1.12µm ultrawide lens and a 2 MP f/2.4 aperture, 1/5″, 1.75µm lens that is centered vertically in the middle with an additional 2 MP f/2.4 aperture, 1/5″, 1.75µm depth sensor lens below the flash, just besides the triple camera setup. The main camera can shoot videos at 2160p at 30fps and 1080p at 30fps resolution with gyro-EIS and produce images of resolutions at 4000 x 3000 pixels. Oppo has given emphasis on the video stability nature of the camera that is able to handle shaky videos while running or jumping. The feature that the camera comes with are the HDR and the panorama mode.
For the camera, A5 2020 has a standard single-lens as discussed before. The front camera actually an 8 MP lens with a f2.0 aperture. The camera can shoot videos at 1080p at 30 fps resolution. The camera provides an HDR shooting modes. Oppo has claimed that the front camera enhances images with the built-in AI beautification which automatically identifies ages and smoothens different skin tones depending on the gender and adjust pictures based on the current trend.
Performance of Oppo A5 2020
Oppo has claimed that the A5 2020 is one of the best performing models yet and has said to make “everything snappier”. Oppo has also claimed a game boost 2.0 with the graphics chip setup.
A5 2020 provides faster performance with a Qualcomm SDM665 Snapdragon 665 (11 nm) chipset and an Octa-core (4×2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver) as the main processor. The phone also provides with an Adreno 610 for the GPU for the game boot 2.0 feature. The phone has a 64-bit architecture with 3 GB of RAM.
The phone provides us with a 64 GB internal storage and an external storage available up to 256 GB. The phone has a 5000 mAh battery with a reverse charging feature. The phone is available with two variants, a 64 GB/3 GB and a 128 GB/4 GB variant. The phone provides us with a dual nano SIM tray on the placed on the left side and a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the bottom. The fingerprint sensor is placed vertically on the back below the camera and the speaker grill is placed on the bottom of the phone.
The phone does not support NFC feature but supports a 4G connection with all the other standard network connection features.
The feature Oppo is most hyped about is the battery in the A5 2020. It contains a huge non-removable Li-Polymer battery with a 5000 mAh battery. The A5 2020 does not support wireless charging nor does it have super-fast charging capability, but the phone comes with a unique feature that is the reverse charging feature. The phone can actually charge other phone with direct connection to the USB ports, meaning that the phone can act as a power bank to other devices.
The power bank/reverse charging feature was heavily implied on the A5 2020 promotional page and official video. The 5000 mAh battery alone can easily last throughout the whole day wit a sing;e full charge.
Oppo A5 2020 phone is the best phone yet from the A series and the overall form Oppo in general. The A5 2020 does not miss out any necessary basic feature for daily usage. The phone is made available a very comfortable price. Oppo has managed to include most of the high-end features in a mid-range package. The phone is obviously targeted to the general public who don’t want to waste their money on a high-end flagship phone which has features similar to a basic mid-range phone just packaged differently. It is capable to be anyone’s daily driver without killing the bank.
The phone is said to cost only around NRs 22,990 for a 64 GB/3 GB variant in Nepal.
