Nokia has yet again released another budget edition phone to its collection. Previously it was the Nokia 7.2, this time it is the newest rendition to the older Nokia 2 phone. The phone is simply called the Nokia 2.3 and was launched in December of 2019.
Nokia is managing to stay strong in the smartphone market by bringing out extremely budget-friendly higher quality phones. The Nokia 2.3 packs in a larger display and improved battery life when compared to its predecessor.
The Nokia 2.3 has an extremely simplistic design with standard and usual features. It is not too different from its predecessors. The design follows standard dual camera combo in the back and a single front camera housed within a dew-drop style notch and a small chin on the bottom with the Nokia logo.
The main cameras are arranged vertically in the middle with an LED flash and just below it is the Nokia logo also printed vertically. The dew-drop notch is right in the middle on the top of the display. The power buttons and the volume keys are both on the right side of the phone and the slot for the SIM cards and SD cards is on the left. The speaker grills, USB 2.0 port and the headphone jack are all on the bottom.
The general dimensions for the phone are as 157.7 x 75.4 x 8.7 mm for height, width and thickness respectively. The phone weighs around 183 gm. It has a metal frame with a matte finish. The phone comes in Cyan Green, Sand and Charcoal color variations.
Display on Nokia 2.3
The Nokia 2.3 has actually a larger display. Like we mentioned above the display has a notch on the top and a small chin on the bottom, so it is not a completely bezel-less display.
However, the display itself is not that impressive. While the display is a larger 6.2-inch display, it is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. The screen resolution is 720 x 1520 pixels with 16M colors. It has 19:9 screen to body ratio also it has an Always-on display feature.
Cameras on Nokia 2.3
For a phone at this price range, the cameras are actually decent. Nokia has a dual camera set up for the main camera and a single front camera lens.
The main camera is a dual-lens set up with an f2.2 13 MP lens with AF and a 2 MP depth sensor lens. It can shoot at 1080p at 30 fps and can produce images of 4128 x 3096 pixels. The camera has all the standard features like the Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Face detection and Touch to focus. The shooting modes in the camera are the standard Continuous Shooting and High Dynamic Range mode (HDR).
The front camera is a single 5 MP lens which is not that bad. It is housed inside a dew-drop style notch on the front of the display.
The battery is also one of the impressive features for the Nokia 2.3. It has a Non-removable 4000 mAh Li-Po battery, which even most high-end phones struggle to include.
The phone does not have a wireless charging feature and unfortunately it also does not have a USB 3.0, instead it has a micro USB 2.0 (USB On-The-Go) port. While the battery is impressive the charging won’t be that fast.
Nokia 2.3 has a MediaTek MT6761 Helio A22 chipset with a Quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. Most people probably haven’t even heard of such names before. Nokia decided to go with this chipset and processor to make it extremely budget-friendly. The processor in on itself is not that bad but also not that good. For the GPU it has a PowerVR GE8320 which also probably has never been heard by many people.
It has 32 GB internal storage and an expandable memory up to 512 GB. It has only 2 GB of RAM which is laughable and maybe a turn down for most people. Other redeeming quality is that it has a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The phone comes with Android 9.0 (pie) installed working on its custom Android One UI. With these specs it won’t be the fastest but for the price range, this is actually quite amazing.
Network and Connectivity
The Nokia 2.3 supports 4G and also 3G and 2G. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with hotspot feature, Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP, LE and also GLONASS GPS. But it does not have NFC built-in.
It supports dual nano-SIM cards in the SIM tray which can also house a micro SD card with all the other standard network and connectivity features.
Like we’ve been mentioning form the beginning, the Nokia 2.3 is extremely budget-friendly phone and extremely affordable. It is priced at only $ 140 in the US. The phone cost around only Rs. 10,000 in India and the phone only costs around Rs. 15,000 in Nepal.
The price makes it quite affordable for any average consumers which makes it one of the best budget phone of 2019.
